London Day 5 - Saturday July 19, 2014: "Shaun of the Dead"

Here are our "Shaun of the Dead" photos... For anyone reading this blog who hasn't seen the movie, it is without doubt the funniest horror movie ever made, and we're all big fans.

In the first part of the movie, Shaun walks from his flat to his local market to pick up some snacks, totally clueless that he is surrounded by zombies as can be seen in the following YouTube video "Oblivious to Zombies": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqQ8Y9Sjp7o

Anyway, here we are retracing Shaun's steps, starting with Shaun leaving his house at 83 Weston Park Road in Crouch End, London:

Our picture of the house today:

Shaun crosses the road, oblivious to the zombie walking up the street behind him:

Our view up the street today (10 years after the movie was made):

Shaun walking around the corner:

Lindsay posing in roughly the same spot:

Shaun around the corner, walking towards his little grocery store, not paying attention to the garbage in the street or the hole in the car windshield:

Lindsay in roughly the same spot:

Shaun reaching into the cold case to get a Coke, not noticing the bloody hand prints on the glass doors (or the blood he slips on when he turns around):

Ten years later, it's all still there!

Shaun grabs an ice cream cone, again unaware there's a zombie in the back of the store:

The same glass ice cream case today; Lindsay was able to get the same ice cream cone Shaun bought:

Shaun leaves the store, again unaware of the carnage around him:

The door is a different color now, but otherwise looks the same:

Shaun returns home with his Coke and ice cream cone, bumping into a zombie along the way and completely ignoring him:

That was the beginning of the movie. At the end, the main characters decide their best chance for survival is to hide in the Winchester, their local pub. Here's a YouTube clip of the characters putting their plan together, which involves walking through a crowd of zombies surrounding the Winchester: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmyQDH_PSC4.

From the movie:

And today, an apartment building:

One nice thing we discovered by going to these filming locations was that it gave us a great opportunity to see areas of London we never would have seen otherwise. It was fun walking around these out-of-the-way residential neighborhoods.
